a. smaller heat shrink (x3)
b. 3-prong housing (black)
c. Cricket jumpers, any color (x3)
d. 2.2k resistor
e. IR jumpers (same as Cricket jumpers; come with sensor) (x3)
f. sharp IR sensor
g. 3-prong housing (white; comes with sensor)
– soldering iron and solder (not pictured)
– heat gun (not pictured)
Take the 3 IR jumpers and plug them into the white 3-prong housing. Note the order: yellow on top, black in the middle, red on the bottom.
The jumper has a tiny tab on one side; you might not be able to see it clearly but you can feel it with your finger. When plugging it in, the tab must be facing the side of the housing with the tiny opening. When placed in, you should feel a light “click” and if it has been put in correctly then you will not be able to take it out. If it is easily removable you have either placed it in incorrectly or not pushed it in far enough.
Then plug the white 3-prong housing into the sharp IR sensor.
Cut the yellow and black wires about 1 inch from the sensor. Strip both wires’ cut ends about half an inch.
Take the exposed wires from the yellow and black wires plugged into the sensor and wrap them around either end of the resistor. Keep them close to the center of the resistor. Apply solder to each connection.
Wrap the other yellow and black wires onto their corresponding sides of the resistor. Apply solder to each connection. Cut the resistor wire that extends past the connections you soldered.
Strip the 3 Cricket jumpers and the red jumper plugged into the sensor about half an inch. Do not strip the end of the wire that has the jumper. Wrap one of the Cricket jumpers around each wire plugged into the sensor. Apply solder to each connection. Slide a piece of the smaller heat shrink over each connection. Heat it with the heat gun until it has shrunk to fit tightly.
Now before you plug the 3 Cricket jumpers into the black 3-prong housing, remember: the order of the wires changes. The yellow wire remains in the top, but the red and black wires switch: so now the red wire is in the middle and the black wire is in the bottom.
